It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Bristol Chemical Synthesis Centre for Doctoral Training (BCS CDT) for excellence in all aspects of synthetic chemistry. The BCS CDT is funded by EPSRC, the University of Bristol and various partners from the Chemical Industry with a total investment exceeding £10M. This funding is providing a unique four-year PhD training in Chemical Synthesis. This encompasses the full breadth of the discipline, including organic & inorganic synthesis, catalysis, mechanisms, supramolecular chemistry and biological chemistry.

Through our website you will learn in more detail about the Centre's aims, how the course is structured and you will meet the staff and students and learn more about their projects, publications and experiences so far.

Professor Eric Jacobsen to visit the School

Professor Eric Jacobsen is to visit the School of Chemistry as the recipient of the 2nd Bristol CDT-Syngenta Award. Professor Jacobsen is the second recipient of this award, which is supported by Syngenta to allow a student committee to organise a visit by a well-respected chemist.

CDT student Ryan Beattie wins prize at RSC Symposium

Ryan Beattie (2010 Cohort) was awarded the runner up prize for his lecture"A versatile synthetic approach to novel deoxy sugar analogues" at the RSC Bioorganic Postgraduate Symposium hosted at the University of Manchester on 11th April 2013.

This annual meeting is a flagship event for developing the careers of young researchers at the chemistry/biology interface, with talks and posters from postgraduate students.

Ed Balmond Cited in Book Publication

Ed Balmond (2009 Cohort) has contributed towards a proven methods publication, to be published in the next volume of “Carbohydrate Chemistry: Proven Synthetic Methods”. The book, which is a compendium of articles describing robust protocols in Carbohydrate chemistry, contains procedures carried out and verified by Ed in the laboratory.
